England 1973–1989 - Adrian M Saunders

Photographer Ralph Gibson once said, ‘Writing about photography is like talking about music –i.e. it can be done but one doesn’t really advise it’.

I tend to agree.

But, for what its worth...

At age thirteen, growing up in England, I was given my first serious camera – a ‘Leotax’ –
Japanese clone of a Leica. Ever since then I’ve not stopped taking photographs. Predominately using black and white film.  

I often photograph without any clear idea of what it is I’m looking for. However, I am frequently drawn to the ambiguity or strangeness of a scene.  

As Garry Winogrand said, ‘I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed’.
